Like most teenagers during the summer, Sam, Danny and Tucker enjoyed going to the beach.

To a lesser extent, so did Jazz, who had agreed to drive them there and "supervise"; of course, that was quickly forgotten with the momentary cautions of Don't wander off! and NO GHOST FIGHTING!, and then Jazz was off to the marine biology museum with her notebook and trusty pink pen.

So they were left by themselves at the beach house to change. Sweet.

Except for the minute that Sam opened her backpack she could have sworn that tiny hearts erupted from it, along with a perfume so sickeningly sweet that she could have hurled.

"I. Am. Not. WEARING. THIS."

And so she grabbed her best friends' wrists, after closing her backpack ("Augh! The smell! How will I get it out?") and dragged them to the nearby swim shop. Then she deposited them on the benches while she went to go find something in something a little more dark.

He scratched the back of his neck. "Well, that's kind of why I figured I ought to be honest about it..."

"If I want to see you naked, I promise I'll just ask," Danny said solemnly.

Then, "Uh, I didn't mean for it to come out like that."

He harrumphed and tried to think of how to get them back.

"Um, would offering to prance around in my underwear for you help get some back or make me lose more?"

"Um."

He scooted over next to her, pulling her close.

"Okay. One of the things I learned from doing that, aside from it being bad and wrong and horribly awful was that...well, you were really pretty. Like, really, really pretty. And that's kind of when I stopped, because it felt...wrong. I mean, it was different to look at other girls like that, just a joke, you know? But seeing my best friend like that and really liking what I saw--without, um, you knowing--was wrong. It was a bad thing to do to you. Even if...even if I was really tempted to see you again like that."

"You're really beautiful, Sam," Danny said sheepishly. "I'm sorry it took me so long to figure out...what I wanted, I guess."

A grin. "And I'm not just saying that for makeout points--okay, partly for makeout points, but I'm also saying it because it's true."

There was a slight cringe.

"Understood."

"Can I cash those in right now or do you think we should head back? It's kind of getting dark," he said, looking up at the sky.

Shaking and weak at the knees when she finally pulled away, he grinned at her--a huge, dopey, dizzy grin.

Then a wave bowled him right over.

He eventually got out of the water, his hair a soppy mess and picked up his shirt off the ground, shaking all the sand out of it.

Then he handed it to her. "At least it's dry."

Hopefully she'd be a little less cold.

He was already reaching for her hand and looking up and down the beach to see if there was anyone there.

It was empty. The beach wasn't as nice there near the bay so towards the evening, it was empty, unlike the public beaches near the boardwalk.

Sam probably felt lighter than the air itself and that was because she was, when Danny took her hand. His flight was more of a hover as he couldn't fly fast without transforming, but he kind of wanted it to be slow.

The was setting over the land, but the light spread out and touched the water below them.

Then the light was going through them as Danny made them both invisible. Just so no one else would see.

"...You know, whenever you want to fly, al you have to do is ask. I mean, you've flown with me before, but usually because you were hurled off a bridge or something."

"It's...I guess it kind of is my thing. I mean, I'm not much good at anything else--and don't tell me I'm being hard on myself, because it's true. But this is...everybody's else's thing. Yours, Tucker's, Jazz's, my mom's and my dad's--everyone in Amity Park. It belongs to everyone. I...kind of belong to everyone, even if they hate me."

A pause. "But I belong to you, especially. So, if you want to...just ask."
